Laura Read
Laura Read the author of “Instructions for My Mother’s Funeral” which won the AWP Donald Hall Prize for Poetry, and the chapbook “The Chewbacca on Hollywood Boulevard Reminds Me of You” winner of the Floating Bridge Press Chapbook Award. Her poem “Pentecost” was selected by Rita Dove to appear in the New York Times Magazine. Her most recent book, “Dresses from the Old Country” was pbblished by BOA in 2018. The three poems on this site are from this most recent book.
Additionally, Read is a recipient of a Washington State Artists Trust Grant, a Florida Review Prize for Poetry, and the Crab Creek Review Prize for Poetry.
She teaches English and writing at Spokane Falls Community College.
