Terry Martin

An avid reader and writer, Terry Martin has published hundreds of poems, essays, and articles, and three poetry books—The Light You Find (Blue Begonia Press, 2014), The Secret Language of Women (2006), and Wishboats (2000). She has also edited journals, books, and anthologies.

Martin completed her undergraduate degree at Western Washington University, then taught high school English for several years before receiving her M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Oregon. For thirty years, she taught English at Central Washington University, where she won the Distinguished Professor—Teaching Award, and was honored as a U.S. Professor of the Year by the CASE/Carnegie Foundation—a national teaching award given to recognize extraordinary commitment and contribution to undergraduate education.

In 2016 Terry retired, was immediately diagnosed with late-stage breast cancer, and began what she describes as a surprising, challenging, mysterious time of her life. “I’m not sure what this  next chapter holds in store,” she says, “but are any of us? Ever?”

Martin lives with her family in Yakima, Washington—The Fruit Bowl of the Nation.
